The home of Tampa cigar king Val Maestro Antuono is still on the market

The Tampa home of one of the wealthiest cigar makers in the early 1900s, Val Maestro Antuono, has been on the market for well over a year, and now the asking price has been reduced by 11.5%.

The six bedroom, six bathroom home is located on 4024 Bay to Bay Boulevard and is now going for a cool $2,650,000.

Built in 1925,  the home sits on nearly an acre and at the time was one of Tampa Bay's largest estates. Featuring a 2,000-square-foot loggia, the outside of the home comes with an over-sized Spanish tiled pool, lush tropical landscaping with mature oaks, a four car garage, and a 620 square-foot detached mother-in-law suite.

Inside, the home sports both an upstairs and downstairs kitchen, a wine cellar, a library with its own balcony, and dual master bedrooms. Though the home has undergone plenty of modern updates through the years, many of the original features are still prevalent, like the stained glass windows, molding and Spanish tiles.

Born in 1874, a young Antuono migrated from Italy to Tampa at the age 12, and spent the next 14 years making cigars after dropping out of school, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Artuono later borrowed $150 to start his own cigar business, and by 1924 he was the wealthiest cigar magnate in the U.S because of his popular Duke de Belcourt and CHS cigars. Artunono was a celebrated local, and at one point he was Italy’s vice consul to Tampa and was even recognized by Benito Mussolini for his opposition to the mafia.

The listing agent for this piece of Tampa history is Felicity Rollins of Buy in The Bay Realty Group.
