The childhood home of Tom Petty went to auction two months ago, and it turns out his ex-wife, Jane Benyo Petty, won the property.
According to property records obtained by the Gainesville Sun, the home located at 1715 NE 6th Terrace sold for $175,000 on July 31 to Benyo Petty, who outbid a California real estate agent and superfan of the legendary musician.
The three bedroom, two bathroom home, was where Petty spent a significant chunk of his younger years, and is also the home where he met Benyo Petty, who lived just down the street. Theres no place like Gainesville, and Ive been everywhere, she told the paper.
Benyo Petty says shes not going to make a museum out of it, and that the home will likely be given to Pettys grandchildren.
Petty died at the age of 66 in October of 2017. Last month, the Florida Historical Marker Council agreed that the Duckpond neighborhood where Petty grew up will receive a two-sided historical marker.
